Background
This is one of Saving Takeouts' first client projects. Collaborating closely with the marketing team, Saving Takeout’s development team (myself, Jun Huang, Nicholas Chen, and Minh Dang) designed and developed this e-commerce website using Figma and a custom Wordpress theme for a local seafood wholesale business.
The Problem
For the past five years, our client acquired customers through word of mouth. They wanted a website that would help them build an online presence to expand their client base and boost revenue.
My Role
I designed and developed the 'Our Story' page and the footer and made most of the design decisions for the website. I also collaborated with my team in designing developing the rest of the website.
The Process

1. Interviews
2. Prototyping
3. Web Development
4. Iterative Design

Interviews

We interviewed the owner of the seafood wholesale business to discuss his objectives for the website and how they could be translated into technical specifications. We determined that the main objectives of the website are for e-commerce, providing the business's contact information and operating hours, building a digital presence for the business, and being accessible to Chinese customers.
Prototyping

Our team of four collaborated on creating a low-fidelity prototype of the website on Figma before we got to developing it.
Web Development

Within a week, we developed the website based on our prototypes using a custom Wordpress theme created with HTML, CSS, and javascript.
Iterative Design

We presented our website to the owner of the business and discussed with him any modifications that needed to be made. Based on his feedback, we made changes to the website.
Design Decisions

Since, the company’s target market is middle-aged and older Chinese speakers, we decided to use a color palette consisting of red and gold, as these colors represent luck in China. We also decided to streamline the website as much as possible to make it easy to navigate for older customers. In addition, there is an option to toggle between an English translation and a Chinese translation of the website in order to accommodate Chinese speakers who may not know English.
